The V&A is the world’s leading museum of art, design and performance. Founded in 1852 to make works of art available to all, today the V&A houses a permanent collection of over 2 million objects.

In collaboration with the V&A, we have worked with the London museum to discover beautiful designs from their archive to create new stunning patterns.

Almond Blossom and Swallow

This pattern was inspired by an 1878 wallpaper Almond Blossom and Swallow, designed by Walter Crane (1845–1915), one of the leading exponents of the Aesthetic Movement and the first President of the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society.

Crane’s wallpaper designs were often narrative and show the influence of Japanese art on British culture. This wallpaper pattern was exhibited at the International Exhibition held in Paris in 1878, where it was awarded a gold medal. The original design is now housed at the V&A.

Founded in the UK in 2007, Signare is the largest tapestry accessories brand in the world, distributing to over 35 countries and over 3000 concessions.

Signare has teamed up with the V&A, the National Gallery, the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, and the Frida Kahlo Corporation etc. to support the artists through the creation of timeless pieces.

Signare breathes life into the art of tapestry by infusing it with a modern twist and showcasing art and attitude originally and beautifully. Up to now, Signare has created over 60 individual tapestry pattern and 30 distinct types of bags and home furnishing. The Art of Tapestry

Tapestry is an ancient art dating back over 2000 years. In the UK and Europe, tapestry art was most prominent during the middle-ages. Barons and knights would adorn their castle walls with them for both decoration and warmth. A tapestry is started by stretching plain warp threads on a loom to create a grid. The coloured weft threads are then weaved in and out of the warp threads, building up a complete tapestry. Our production method uses modern mechanical looms which greatly speeds up what used to take weeks or months by hand.

A special characteristic of each Signare bag is that each one is unique. Signare means ‘Signature’ in Latin and we wish every customer to possess their own individual signature bag.

This foldable tote bag is fastened with a top zip and covered with a faux leather flap which can clip with a front clip button. The shopping bag has a pair of sturdy faux leather handles for carrying.
The main material for this bag is high-quality woven tapestry. The Value of SIGNARE is the design artwork. Every Signare product has its personality and story to tell. This pattern was inspired by a wallpaper designed by Walter Crane, one of the leading artists of the Arts and Crafts Movement. The design is influenced by Japanese style, with almond blossoms on a blue backdrop, which will bring a Japanese touch into your style. This design is licensed from V&A.
